We all know the benefits of exercise for our health and longevity, but did you know that exercise can also improve your skin? Hormonal imbalance combined with a poor diet, high in sugar, salt and processed foods can lead to many skin problems, especially in teenagers. As the children grow and mature into young adults, they have enough stress trying to “fit in” without having to worry about acne and other skin problems.
You might be relieved to know that having some fun with your friends can also be beneficial to your skin. There are variety of outdoor activities that can be invigorating and improving your blood circulation at the same time. Not only they will make you feel better, but they will also help release toxins that lead to acne and skin problems.
My favorite type of exercise is rollerblading. I don’t even think of it as exercising, I just have a great time with a few friends. I come back refreshed, relaxed and always enjoy a good night’s sleep afterwards. Here are some other benefits:
- Regular physical activity boosts blood circulation.
How exactly is blood circulation related to a healthy skin? The circulation of blood, oxygen and other nutrients helps in drawing out toxins off the body. These toxins are the same ones that clog our pores. By exercising you can bid acne goodbye.
- It reduces stress levels.
When under stress, the production of hormones like cortisol, which provoke acne, is increased. Exercising on the other hand produces endorphins which combat stress and the acne-provoking hormones that come along with it.
- It allows you to have a good night’s sleep.
Did you ever wonder why we call it a “beauty rest”? When you’re well asleep, your skin gets all the time it needs to repair itself. Daily exercise improves your sleeping giving you all the beauty rest your skin needs!
- It makes your skin glow.
When exercising, your blood becomes more oxygenated making your skin glow instantly. This lasts for hours after a workout. What
happens is that the blood vessels lying close to the skin surface dilate making your skin look more vibrant.
- It makes your skin more firm and supple.
Exercising regularly stimulates production of proteins called collagen which is really good for the skin. Collagen makes your skin thicker and slows down skin aging.
- Exercising outdoors will naturally make your skin healthier.
If you’re one of those who love to be physically active outdoors, then you’re doing it right. Exercising outdoors is one good way of meditation. It gives you a more positive outlook on life which reflects on your skin as well.
